Austin Pound & Shelter – City of Austin Animal Services

A puppy ran in front of our car last night. He was malnourished and had visible wounds from the lead he was on. We’re glad he escaped and frustrated we had to take him to COA Animal Services.  Sadly we could not take on a 3rd dog with or risk injury to  our six year old child. The new Austin facilities out east were the next best option. It was difficult to find information, so it’s posted here for the community.

Found Pets

Lost pets are generally owned by someone. Therefore, don’t keep or adopt out an animal without first making a real effort to locate the owner.

Austin Animal Center will accept any pets found in Austin/Travis County.

Steps when lost animals are found:

  • If you can keep the found pet temporarily, call or contact 3-1-1 online to submit a Found Animal Report which will appear on our website.
  • Take the found pet to Austin Animal Center or nearest veterinarian to have them scanned for a microchip.
  • If you cannot keep a found pet, then you can contact 3-1-1 or bring the pet in to our facility.
